Franco Mastantuono: Argentina’s New No. 10 and Real Madrid’s Next Superstar

Argentina’s football future looks brighter than ever with the rise of 17-year-old sensation Franco Mastantuono, who has quickly gone from being a promising River Plate talent to the latest jewel of world football. In just one extraordinary week, the youngster fulfilled two lifelong dreams: playing alongside his idol Lionel Messi and wearing the iconic Argentina No. 10 jersey.

Speaking after his debut start for Argentina, Mastantuono could hardly hide his emotions: “Playing with Messi was the dream of my life. Today being able to play with him here, on River’s field, is something incredible. As I’ve always said, he’s been my idol since I was a kid.” That admiration turned into reality last week when he lined up next to Messi, and today, he stepped onto the pitch carrying the symbolic shirt once worn by the world champion.

At the same time, his career is about to take another giant leap. Real Madrid have secured the signature of the Argentinian wonderkid on a six-year deal worth $45 million, to be paid in installments. While the agreement with River Plate is nearly finalized, the Argentine club is pushing for Mastantuono to remain until August, allowing him to feature in the Club World Cup before heading to Spain.

Meanwhile, Argentina’s U-20 national team wants Mastantuono to participate in the upcoming U-20 World Cup. Should the team reach the final, he would be absent for seven Real Madrid matches, making the Spanish club’s approval essential. Madrid will have the final say, as balancing his international commitments with the demands of European football will be crucial.

For Argentina, seeing a teenager take Messi’s number 10 shirt reflects both confidence in Mastantuono’s talent and the hope that he can lead the next generation. For Real Madrid, it is yet another statement signing, adding to their collection of world-class young stars.

From living his dream of playing with Messi to sealing a move to the Santiago Bernabéu, Franco Mastantuono’s meteoric rise shows no sign of slowing down. At just 17, he is already stepping into history.
